The Gallery Concept
Since it was founded in 1978, Galerie Schlichtenmaier has addressed the fields of New Objectivity, Expressive Realism and early ways to Abstraction. The programme was soon enlarged to include art after 1945 in the charged field between realism and Concrete Art and represents the interrelationship of expressive and gestural trends, Lyrical Abstraction, constructive and figurative positions.
The gallery is particularly committed to the work of Willi Baumeister and Adolf Hölzel and owns an extensive collection of works of museum standard. In securing the sole rights to representing the HAP Grieshaber estate on the art market, the gallery has notably enlarged its pool of artists represented on an exclusive basis. Recently the gallery has judiciously extended its programme to include an exploration of both contemporary painting and sculpture.
In essentials, criteria such as quality, originality and assurance represent the guidelines applied to evaluating the individual work of art. Working on this basis, the three co-proprietors of the gallery have succeeded in giving it a distinctive profile despite the wide range of work sold.
